The phrase "culture is result of evolution itself" (M297) refers to the belief that culture develops in line and is influenced by with biological factors such as genes as a result of evolution. The example given by Moghaddam is the Malthusian cycle. The Malthusian cycle is the evidence put forth by Malthus, an economist and priest, which depicts how when population size increases, famine increases, followed by a decrease in population size and an increase in relative prosperity. In the time of a large population size, working wages are relatively low as there is there are many people willing to work due to the population size, which increases competition for survival. Those who rise to the top survive, and those who stay at the bottom perish. This is the difference between survival and extinction. The modernization of Britain in the second-half of the 19th century depicted the competition described.Darwin's theory of evolution stated that a species may reproduce new organisms in excess relative to the resources available for them, which would cause a fierce competition for survival. Darwin believed that within a certain species certain individuals would have different characteristics; sometimes it would make no difference, or they would have negative or positive outcomes, as they would lessen or improve chances of survival. Often those organisms part of a species with adaptive characteristics would survive and pass on those characteristics to the next generation. This can support the idea that as adaptative characteristics are passed on and impact our genes, culture develops in the same way in regards to competition and "survival of the fittest" , and can be thought of as a result of evolution.
