Social constructions are the product of a group understandings of shared experiences where an idea or notion may seem obvious to some, but in fact may not be an accurate representation of reality. Ex: gender, which is representative of describing or distinguishing a male or female based on their association with the understood societal constructs associated with each sex, often made regardless of the individuals biological sex. Agency is the concept of having free will, or governance within a given setting or as part of a group. ex acting within the bounds of your ascribed gender. to comply with the norm. Meaning systems are an organized and meaningful structure given to shared experiences that can differ among societies. Often times these meaning systems can be represented by carriers, acting as symbols for the associated belief system. Ex wedding rings. Lastly Normative science looks at overall patterns within and across groups in an effort to develop theoretical knowledge, being is less concerned with calculating cause and effect of a given scenario.
