Social constructivism is based on social norms and rules that are created by the culture, and perceives human development as socially situated, and that our knowledge and development is influenced by our interactions with others. The concept of agency is based upon one's awareness of initiating and executing one's own actions in the world, and focuses on how the individual does have or does not have agency based on the surroundings as well, which can relate to social constructions and how they influence us and our behaviour. Meaning systems are related to social constructivism because they are important associations that an individual, either subconsciously or consciously has in their mind which are often created by society or ingrained in them already, and this highlights the effects of meaning systems and how they may support norms and rules in society. Normative science focuses on the end goals and the norms of the society in relation to those goals. Social constructivism and normative science are both similar because they both focus on the social approach in regards to the norms in society, and normative science especially focuses on meaning systems to learn about how humans assign meaning to different thoughts and actions, and how they play out in culture.
