What does it mean to say that the basis of inter-group conflict in Western society (race and religion, for example) is a social construction? Why is the possibility that the conflict has a socially constructed foundation important for Psychology?
The basis of inter-group conflict in society is a social construction means different groups develop different meaning systems and inter group conflict arises when a groups values and beliefs do not coincides with another group. This is important for psychology because it is a means of reductionism to understand the behavioral outcome in inter-group relations and we may come up with solutions for any conflicts they may arise.
