When I came to Canada about 7 years ago, I spoke poor poor english. I was merely able to communicate with people. I spent sometime in adult schools till I started to have a good sense of the use of English language in Canada. I had to conform to this norm or else i will be lost in this country. Thus, this is indeed a positive thing. On the other hand I had a friend from the same country who never drank alcohol, however, in very few months my fiend started drinking alcohol, and now hes an alcoholic. Thus in this case he conformed to the norm that most people have here but it ended up negatively influencing him.
