Damasio provides an interesting distinction between body maps and body states. He describes body states as the physical state of the body and its reaction to feeling. The body state is the basis of feeling. Whereas, body maps are body sensing regions that produce a map of what is occurring in the body. In relation to feelings, Damasio also notes that feelings do not derive from body states but from the body maps, constructed at any moment in the body-sensing regions (Domasio, 2003). Feelings are the arrangements of the body state represented by body maps.
I hope I have understood these concepts as it was a bit challenging to capture from the text. I look forward to your suggestions and comments to my post.
