Although Damasio argues that feelings are connected to emotions, he does say that emotions precede feelings. Emotions are bodily reactions to emotionally competent stimulus, ECS produce the emotion which means its observable. Feelings are a mental replication of the bodily state and that is private. Damasio says that our feelings and emotions go together in everyday life, so its simultaneous. Through his diagram I am somewhat convinced that his claim is true through the biological explanation. The sensory system is connected to pathways which triggers a part of the brain and execution takes place. So, changes in the internal body takes place such as muscle tightening. The signal goes back to the sensory cortex which is where the feelings are. That is why feelings are not a passive process.
