The primary emotions include:
1. Fear
2. Anger
3. Disgust
4. Surprise
5. Sadness
6. Happiness
1. Fear
Ex. safety
I do believe that fear can be learned by association, being around people with anxiety, I often see similar, if not the same tendencies in the parent. Since parents are constantly fearful of things the child is surrounded by this and therefore has anxious tendencies as well. Even if we consider a specific fear of things like being hit while crossing the street or being taken, it’s often a projection of the parents fears that they’ve been taught. If a child is not told about these risks, they’re less likely to be fearful and more likely to take risks.
2. Sadness
I think sadness is an innnate quality as it is heavily influenced by your perspective on certain things. Even in kids, some are sad when they see injustices (a kid hogging a toy/bike, etc.) and others don’t care. It mostly depends on what the child’s perspective is and how they react.
3. Surprise
Surprise is mostly based on the reinforcement given so I believe that makes it learned. Kids may look at an adult for a response and surprise is usually paired with positive reinforcement (surprise party, exceeding expectations, etc.) We learn this behaviour mostly through observation and mimicking certain responses.
