Body state and body map

Demasio says that a feeling is an idea of the body. Emotions are not just feelings of our present body state. The body state itself is always already a measure of how things are going for the organism in its setting. He also talks about how a mental image is not an inner representation or model of some reality, and that image is not just our awareness of certain aspects of our current body state. An example of this is a person being threatened, there’s things such as infections or germs that make you feel threatened which are examples of internal effects to the body- or a sarcastic person/ a snake which are external to the body – these aspects of the environment are present in a persons body state, which takes place through the body’s ongoing interaction with the environment the body is surrounded with at that present moment.
