Who can have feelings?
Review the basic requirements that Damasio suggests an organism must meet in order to experience feelings. Briefly explain each of these. How do these requirements illustrate Damasio's connection between feelings and the process of evolution?
It is important that to take note that body isn't only the important to be considered. An organism may represent itself but it doesn't fully give a complete picture of everything. This is why nervous system is important for it helps in mapping body states and transform it into meaningful signals and pattern. Also, occurrence of feeling requires consciousness for an organism may not experience an emotion or feelings of they are not aware of everything. Consciousness is required to be able to feel. The last requirement to be considered is the presence of the brain. Brain is a powerful tool that can help in developing emotions and feelings. Through the brain's machinery, it can map bodily state and can cause modifications, transmissions of signals or blocking signals. As the the brain controls regulation of everything, it helps in making adaptive adjustments in body states and mental states.
