Sometimes, the decisions we make can be based on logic (the brain) and rational thinking or feelings (the "heart") and irrational thinking. Sometimes both is needed for a suitable decision. Sometimes one overthrows the other.
Feelings are just as mental as the objects/events that rigger them and we associate with them while making decisions.
What we actually feel isn't exactly what we would've felt without the wise interference of the brain as Damasio mentions.
I have made decisions that i ended up somewhat regretting listening to my heart because i could've been wiser if i made them based on rational thinking. Likewise, many decisions i have made using my brain "alone" didn't make me as happy as i could've been following my heart.
We have the ability to control to an extent our emotions that provoke feelings , making decisions. We just need to find a good medium.
