1. Damasio raises the question, "How could emotion and feeling play a role in decision-making?" (p 145). Summarize his answer to this question and provide an example of a more-or-less mundane decision in your own experience that might illustrate Damasio's idea.
According to Damasio, personal experience contributes on how to solve problems and how things work out with our life. Emotions and feelings play a crucial role in decision making. As personal experience predicts outcomes regardless if it is positive or negative, it can still provide a link to the experience we had in the past and the new experience. Moreover, through our personal experiences, we can compare and contrast our past experiences to our present ones and work out everything. We can recall our emotions and reactions from the past and if we experience a certain similar emotion in the present, our brain reminds us something that can give us the emotions that are appropriate for the situation we are into. Through comparison, we can have an idea on how should we solve it and think of possible solutions. This is how our past emotions and feelings experience can predict the outcomes of our actions, behavior and decision making.
When I was in high school, my groupmates and I decided to skip classes just because of an unfinished project that's due a day after. We didn't ask permission from our mentor. The next day, our mentor talked to us about skipping classes. Of course she got mad at all of us, as a leader of the group, I am responsible for everything. That made me feel guilty and shame not only towards my groupmates but also my mentor. When times like this occur this present time, I see to it that instead of rushing things and procrastinating, I should start ahead of time so that I can manage everything and make me feel accomplished.
