Whata are feelings for?

Damasio’s answer to his question, “what is feelings for?”, addresses the “why” and “what” of feelings. He first looks at why we have feelings and explains that in order for the body to coordinate functions, it needs to have maps in which the state of the varied body systems are represented moment by moment (Damasio, 2003). He also suggests that feelings are a by product of how the brain manages life. The involves the fact that feelings help us to be creative, make judgements and to make decisions. Feelings are prominent mental events that call attention to emotions that bring them out and to object that trigger those emotions (Damasio, 2003).
