The somatic marker hypothesis proposes that emotional processes guide (or bias) behaviour, particularly decision-making. When individuals make decisions, they must assess the incentive value of the choices available to them, using cognitive and emotional processes. When the individuals face complex and conflicting choices, they may be unable to decide using only cognitive processes. Emotions, consequently, are hypothesized to guide decision making. (Emotional situations become marked in our bodies). Ex; You get scared doing a speech in front of a crowd, next time you choose not to present because of the emotions experienced previously.
