organisms like starfish do not have a brain or eyes. They do not have a sense of self or a mind, but rather a network of neurones that receives signals from the sensory organs of the starfish's extremities. If it detects danger from a predator, starfish change its colour from light to dark and hide away from danger. In terms of humans, we react differently to trauma/danger. we, fight, flight or freeze when faced with danger. Even if two people picked the option to fight, their way of fighting might be different from each other. Prior experiences and knowledge might make one person be more successful than the other or both their methods might grant equal success ( Survival) As humans have a sense of self and mind, they have many options and pick the one that best suit them. For example, if a person has a black belt in taekwondo and has fought people in real life before, he would pick the option of fighting his opponent rather than running away from his opponent. Humans have the option to be unique and solve the same problem in different methods. Starfish on the other hand, will perform the same set of reactions over and over again. Every starfish acts the same way and do not pick their own style/method for survival .These traits may change over time as evolution takes place and all the unfavourable traits are removed from their genetic code. If an predator figures out the trick used by starfish, they can prey on every single starfish as they all use th esame technique. Thereofre, starfish do not have good mechanisms to help survival. Humans on the other hand have an advantage as they are aware of themselves and together with the mind, have a higher chance of survival. In humans, all systems work together for the survival of humans.
