What Damasio means when he is relating to foundational images, are events that are taking place in your body that your mind is processing. This event could occur anywhere in your body from deep inside to external that tell the mind what the body is doing and where it is. The mind-body problem is your understanding of what you are doing and the state your body is in (if it's healthy/sick/feeling emotion/what led you to emotion) in terms of your self awareness. The problem is trying to determine if the mind and body are separate or one part of the same thing. How it relates to foundational images is that the foundational images are happening in the body and then being transferred for processing either in the mind or in the brain, but are these two the same or different? This is the issue with the body and the mind - are they the same or are they 'from two different substances or just one'?
