6. Ron has repeated in class that Damasio is seeking to extend the concept of homeostasis beyond the biological level to the psychological and sociological levels. Describe one way in which Damasio argues for the importance of homeostasis at the sociological level. -- Damasio firmly believed that balance is the key to achieve contentment not only in biological aspect but also psychological and sociological. Damasio discussed the in the chapter that individuals yearn for homeostatic balance and correctives in their life. For example, how individuals strive for meaning and purpose is connected on how individuals develop morality that is the biological stage of evolution. To fully be able to attain well being of a person and to readdress suffering, sorrow and joy, balance is needed. In sociological view, Damasio provide a detailed explanation on how the environment promote regulation of joy and sorrow to human being. He stated that maintaining a balance or homeostasis is the key for it serves as a good guidance to individuals as they yearn and continuously strive for it. In the case of Marxism, he neglected the nature of human beings and didn’t conform to it. He only focused on the political aspect, a reason why the idea of Marxism didn’t survive.
