Spinoza's proposition is that the mind and body are interrelated, he posits an early position of dualism. Descartes isolated the mind and body, he viewed them as separate entities, whereas Spinoza emphasized how they operate in relation to one another. The perception, action, and thought patterns of an individual arise from the communication between the mind and the body. As Damasio is a neurologist he can not possibly view them as distinct if his intention is to quantify emotion, feeling and thinking in biological terms, thus Spinoza and Damasio are in agreement about their connectivity.
