According to Spinoza, the mind and body can be represented in the metaphor as "two sides of the same coin" meaning that they are both connected/related to one another.
Descartes on the other hand believed that the mind and body were separate entities.
To Damasio's understanding, he emphasizes how it is surrounded by the idea of dualism where the mind and body are two aspects of dualism where the mind is grounded by the body proper.
An example of this would be the idea of hunger. One does not depend on the mind to feel hungry but the mind would make the body want food through the feeling of hunger.
