Damasio argues that social conventions and ethical rules are a way in which the concept of homeostasis is extended to the level of society and culture. The outcome is the same as that of homeostasis, survival and well-being. Homeostasis extends to laws, constitutions, and organizations such as the United Nations, World Health Organization (WHO) and others of the like. The goal of these organizations is to promote the survival and well-being of humans at a larger level. He reduces ethical system, what we should and should not do, to the biological system, what our state is presently. This is all part of the non-automated self-regulation at the social level. Having both emotions and feelings allow us to improve not only our own situation, but also that of others. In this way, having emotions and feelings is also promoting homeostasis. Homeostasis at the sociological level goes beyond oneself, and focuses on individuals collectively, on their survival and well-being.
