When Moghaddam speaks about meaning systems as an explanation why behaviour patterns occur or persist over time, the first example of a meaning system that comes to my mind is religion. Every religion holds a set of values, and people generally make daily choices in accordance to these set of values. For example, in the Sikh religion an important value held is to share with others, we can do this in many ways but I was taught from a young age that when we go to pray at the Temple, we also volunteer our time to make and serve food to others, this is called doing 'Seva'. The act of doing 'Seva' (aka selfless service) is an example of a carrier that symbolizes sharing with others.
