The primary distinction between light and dark social construction is the existence of agency. The dark social constructionists believe that the society is the only factor in which an individual is shaped, thus believing that the individual has no agency. The light social constructionists do believe that society has an important role in shaping the individual, but the individual also has agency. Society’s important role to light social constructionists consists of a foundation for which the individual can grow.
