Light social construction according to Butt is the interaction with others on a micro level versus dark social construction, which focuses more on day-to-day interactions (macro level). Dark social construction focuses also on the idea that society shapes an individual (for ex: institutions, norms, culture) shape the way we think and behave. Light social construction has to do more with conversations and how we build relationships with others based on those interactions; there is also a sense of agency whereas with dark social construction there is very little agency.
