Psychological Phenomenon 2. "I'm in terrible shape. I eat too many high-fat foods and don't exercise".
Biological reductionist approach suggests that eating low-fat foods and regular exercise is a way to stay fit and in shape and not be overweight. It is a strategy preventing the individual from harming their body and increases their chance to live a positive lifestyle. This approach is beneficial to an individual because it can increase the chances of appealing a partner that has the same ‘fit and in shape’ lifestyle as you.
According to Carl Roger’s humanistic approach theory, no one can understand how someone can perceive besides the person perceiving them-self. Carl Roger’s studies the person’s characteristic and personality and suggests that the individual has the power to control her/himself to become healthier and have a healthy lifestyle (consciousness agency). He mentions that to change the mindset, you have to change your day-to-day habits which results to having healthy habits such as eating low-fat foods and exercising more often.
