The example I choose to explain the degrees of freedom involves watching a movie in the theatres. The movie theatre is a place where people come to enjoy television on the big screen in the dark. Although you are free to do anything in a theatre, people usually act a certain way to ensure others are paying attention to the screen and not you. The main thing I find that people dislike in the theatre is when others pull out their phone to tend to a call or message. Although one is free to do so, everyone tries to avoid this because it is looked down upon and is considered annoying. Nobody wants to be the person that disturbs the eyes of many viewers with that small but powerful beam of light. Some other things that people try to avoid regardless of their degrees of freedom include eating loudly, and having your baby cry while the movie is playing. I believe that people including myself choosing not to do these things despite my degrees of freedom is related to the meaning system. Everyone comes to the movies to watch a movie in peace on the big screen with minimal disturbance. This is the goal for all the viewers. Everyone believes that if they do their part in being respectful for one another during the movie, this goal can be easily accomplished.
