Constructive bankruptcy happens when someone goes through an experience that doesn't fit with their prior schema or constructed meaning, and they have no way of dealing with or processing the situation with their current understanding and construction around the idea. Many war movies show soldier suffering from what was previously described as "shell shock", where the sight of gruesome acts and events around them can not be assessed with or does not fit their current constructed meaning of the situation and they don't have the ability to create a new meaning, leaving them bankrupt in the sense that they've depleted all their options of processing the event.
