The term “constructive bankruptcy” focuses on the limitations of each person’s individual meaning systems. In new and extreme situations encompassing one’s life, traumatic things can happen at the blink of an eye, giving the person no time to be mentally prepared for a notable event. These events can shake us to our cores. For most, the first event is the death of a family member. In events such as these, our pre-made meaning systems on how we interpret things, are not diverse enough to cope with the event. There is no other options, there is no last resort. There’s just a blank.
