Having a true self means that humans are social beings and we thrive to work together and sort common problems. A true self also means to have social and physical aspects of well-being. This includes understanding who you truly are. For example: planning the future in order to benefit you as a person. As humans we construct mental notes in order to act or rationalize on during an event. This perhaps shapes us today to help other others in society form a self. I think that is why we are meant to adapt to the environment and to learn what makes us human. Moreover people feel alive or in a sense of living when they have found their identity or true self.

Your answer seems a bit unclear. Try to think more about why having a "self" means having a constructive relationship with the past and future.
