What is meant by the concept of "constructive bankruptcy" is when an event or situation that someone experiences is beyond their scope of understanding/interpretation that they simply cannot react or expressive themselves appropriately to the situation. The event/situation/trauma that occurred is either so far beyond someone's schema where they cannot accommodate it or beyond the scope of someone's meaning system. Take for example, a couple (now in their late 20's/early 30's expected to marry each other) that began dating as teenagers. Given that the couple new each other for so long and are madly in love with each other; if one of them tragically and unexpected passes away (perhaps they were involved in a car accident), the other person in the relationship does not know how to make meaning of the situation. Just like when a company goes bankrupt because they were not able to remain-afloat in a changing environment (i.e. did not respond appropriately to the environment and market conditions), the person has experienced "constructive bankruptcy" because they cannot construct some sort of meaning from the situation (they are in a 'shell-shock' type state) - they have no other options or ways to coupe with the situation/trauma (hence, socially bankrupt).
