With joint action you need to have two or more people involved. So when two people interact and lets say they are having a conversation, this is overt because it is observable. But there is also a covert part where you have to interpret what is going on and you interpret the meaning. So the dialogue taking place between the two people means there is overt and covert aspects of this joint action and interpretation. When two people are having a conversation, it happens in an automatic way, and the meaning you assign is socially constructed. An example that I can think of is a time that I booked an appointment at the bank with an advisor to open up a savings account. I was learning new information and asking questions based on the information I was being presented with. Based on my prior knowledge and the info I was getting at that time I was creating meaning. So I would agree with Butt I don’t think my interaction was based on personality and situational variables.
