According to damasio feelings are internal responses to the brain which occurs as a result of external external stimuli.he says feelings just don't happen, you just don't feel them , there must be something to trigger the response and they are usually brought about by an emotion which is unconscious. He believes that feelings have strong biological component but cannot survive without complex mental capabilities and so gave a vivid example of the electrical circuit of the Booing 777 even though complex is not automatic but requires mental processes which is the control of a pilot"stimuli"similar to human there has to be a mental process. He said our mental capacity has the ability to to take us out of situation, calm and or motivate ourselves accordingly.
