What is Damasio's purpose in introducing a description of vision in the species Ophiocoma wendtii (p 203)? How does the example relate to the human mind? Damasio's purpose in introducing O.wendtii is to prove the body-mind relationship. Seeing the real object creates a mental representations in our brain. This representation is managed by a 'correspondence" present in an organism. In the case of Owendtii, it has no eyes but there is a part of its structure that has the ability to mimic the sense of sight. Its correspondence is the vision stimulus that helps in avoiding potential predators that may attack.
