The confederate flag is associated with with the Army of the South fighting the Amy of the North (which the south lost) in American Civil War. The confederate arm were accused of enslaving black people during that time. Since then the confederate flag has been the topic of discussion even to this day where people associate the "barer's" of the flag promoting the enslavement of black people. In few instances people have disfigured and even removed the flag from various monuments. Speaking of monuments, the South General of the Confederate Army Robert E. Lee had his 12 ton statue removed from various monuments along the US continent; Along with many other.
To American the confederate flag symbolises oppression, but for outsiders such people from the Netherlands its just a flag.
