Can you describe a situation in your own life when you helped yourself feel better by changing the meaning you gave to events or people in your life?
Yes, you can change the way you think in a certain situation. For example: In my own experience whenever I am watching a scary movie I always tell myself that this is fake and this would not happen in real life. I can control my own mental activity and turn off any fearful emotion that I am experiencing at the moment. In this situation I am telling my brain to calm down and focus on another perspective other than feeling scared because of a scary movie. In addition when you are feeling scared you can fool yourself by not having your attention at the violence or blood. It's the way you perceive things in order to feel that emotion.

I do that too! I never considered it a placebo effect, but you have a point! Our belief in telling ourselves it's not real is very powerful.
