Parents use the placebo effect to help their children feel better in a number of different ways. One example is when a child is not feeling well, let’s say the child is experiencing cold-like symptoms, the parents tell the child to have honey-lemon tea or a warm glass of milk. With no active medication, it helps control symptoms and you feel better. Another example is when a child is not feeling well, the parents may rub their stomach to make the pain go away and after a few minutes, the child will feel better. This hands- on therapy is similar to a child being hugged or kissed by a parent when they are upset to make them feel better. I have personally experienced all of these and I know it worked for me. This might be because you are told by an authority figure (parent) that it will make you feel better and because you trust that person you believe it.
