Topics in Psychology
What are some topics or ideas that you expect a student might hear about in a Psychology course? Which topics are you particularly interested in learning more about?
Some topics I'd expect to hear about would be the history and development of psychology to the scientific discipline it is today. The past trials and tribulations of psychologists trying to figure out what makes humans tick. From Freuds analysis, Pavlov's dogs, and Skinner's rats, to today's neuropsychological investigations and fMRI studies. I feel as though to understand any discipline you have to follow its intellectual and experimental roots, and psychology is no different.
I'm interested in the behavioural neuroscience area of psychology. I want to learn about how neuroscience and cognitive functions impact how people behave. I am fascinated by the fact that we are animals with impulses and desires driven by our brain functions, and that so much is going on beneath the surface of human conscious life that we don't know about; yet it is guiding every decision we make.
