Placebo did play a role in this but in my opinion but I don’t think it was the only reason that the second child performed poorly. The first child who won the second game with the dirty socks believed he won the game because of the dirty sock! The second child’s loss was due to his belief of his sock being his lucky charm and since it was washed he believed that his sock was the reason he lost when realistically his performance was very dependent on his mental state during the entire game. The first child’s performance was solely based on his belief and confidence that his sock was not washed and was ‘lucky’. The correlation between the socks being washed/not washed and their performance has nothing to do with each other, but their dependency on the socks had affected their mental state while playing the game. Your mind is the most powerful medicine, you can achieve anything you want to if you just believe and concentrate on it.
