What are some ways in which parents make use of the placebo effect to help their children feel better? Describe a situation in which you think you experienced the placebo effect personally? What beliefs and values were involved in making the placebo effective?
Making children to believe in Santa Claus. Parents would tell their kids to behave and be nice or they will be on the naughty list. By doing so, their belief and value changes (hopefully for the better) so they can get what they want during christmas. My personal experience with placebo was with an expired food. I didn't notice I was eating something that was expired a month ago. I felt fine after but the moment I realized it was expired, I felt sick. The placebo was effective because I believed that the food was consumable and even looked delicious and that was enough for me to associate the food with positive values. Then when I associated with negative values, I became ill. I didn't physically get sick but I thought the right thing to do was to be sick.
