A very small percentage of Jews survived the holocaust and one of them was Dr. Viktor Frankl. He wrote a book called "Man's searching for meaning" which he explains about logotherapy but most importantly, how he was able to stay alive during the most terrifying event in history. He was a psychiatrist before he was captured by the Nazis and he contributed a huge amount of time supporting others in the camp with mental suffering. He showed how useful psychology can be to an individual.
He believed human mind is powerful and can determine who lives and dies.

Notice that his title uses the word "meaning". His view of Psychology was based in the approach called "normative" by Moghaddam. It suggests that the explanations for people's feelings, thoughts, and actions lie in the meanings they give to the events and possibilities in their lives.
