An example of an Operant behaviour would be a little child becoming upset/ throwing tantrums because he/she wanted a cookie.In order to calm the child, the mother complied with giving him a cookie which stopped the tantrum.
This example is known as negative reinforcement. Negative reinforcement occurs when "a response is followed by the removal of an aversive stimulus". Negative reinforcement plays a key role in escape learning and avoidance learning
