Vygotskys notion of environment of promoting learning is different than the behaviourist notion of reward and punishment of learning. He has a different approach where he focuses of the zone of actual development (ZPD), giving the help needed to better aid in the individuals to doing better in their field of study. Rather than rewarding or punishing individuals for their ability of doing certain tasks he prefers to give them that extra help in their field to help them achieve better results. For example psomeone could do a math test and get 70% with the knowledge that they have on this topic but he says that by giving them some extra help in educating them about this particular topic, the individual could maybe get 80%, perform way better than what they would have without the help. He also indicates that there are certain fields that are beyond an individuals field of understanding. He refers to this as beyond scaffolding, no matter how much help you can provide an individual with a topic if it is too hard for them they Rae's unable to learn ho to solve for that specific question and there for it wouldn't make sense to punish an individual for not Being able to answer a question simply because it was b you'd their ability of understanding.
