What Moghaddam means when he says, "play … allows children to extend themselves developmentally, to act above their age, to do things as part of a collectivity which they are individually too young to do” (p 158) children learn through interactions with others. Children in daycare or preschool playing "house" will use roles of the mom, dad and siblings. Even though they are too young to know how families should act, they observe what they see on a daily basis with their own family and integrate it through play. Children from different ethnic backgrounds and religions may use some of their own values through play, which other children can pick up on.
