Nature, nurture, and twins
How does the study of twins help us understand the nature-nurture controversy with respect to intelligence better?
Twins are about as genetically similar to each other as anyone can be to another person. Having two similar results of the same 'nature' allows to us to more easily observe the effects of nurture in individuals. If nature is truly more responsible for the concept of intelligence in a person, then the environment in which they are raised should not make much of an impact of their potential to demonstrate their intelligence and twins raised apart should perform similarly at intelligence tests even if having grown up in two very different levels of intellectual nurturing. If the environment though, or the nurture, does indeed have a more significant impact then we should see each child's intelligence performance in respect to the opportunities each has had to develop it. I believe that nature does play a small role in the initial framework of the mind, the initial schemas that are molded and adjusted as one develops, but the experiences you go through play on the much larger part, a more significant effect on the end result.
