What is a schema?
A schema is a type of organizational framework that an individual would have created from past experiences and cultural norms. This framework can help an individual by guiding their thoughts, behaviors and interpretations in a given environment.
Describe what Bartlett means by schema and provide an example of schema from your own experience?
With regards to Bartlett's understanding of a schema, he states that the physical aspects of an environment are not enough to fully develop a schema. Also needed are the individuals meaning systems and further representations of an environment in order to qualify as an entrenched 'framework'. ex: Knowing to wait in line to be seated at a restaurant, as opposed to walking into the dining room and confronting a server
What makes schema a cognitive concept rather than a behaviourist one?
Cognitive because there is some thought that occurs between the stimulus and response. I will interpret the scenario, and then act accordingly once I have thought about an appropriate course of action, ass opposed to behaving based on rewards or punishment.
