A schema is seen as a base form of a plan. To me it is a plan that can be used multiple times but changed when going through it increasing it's degree of freedom. It is seen as a pattern just like the TOTE unit. Asking questions weather you do something or not. As Ron used the restaurant as an example, my experience with schema is going shopping at a mall. Depending on the store you either wait for a sale representative to help you or you walk into the store and start looking for items. Maybe you need a dressing room, Do you walk in yourself or wait for someone to let you in. Another part of the schema would be with what you will pay, Visa, master, cash which all depends on the store. These questions can be answered differently at each store but does not mean it will be the same. The questions in these examples is a pattern that can be used at multiple situations (different stores). Behavior is effect only seen as we progress through the schema. Without the schema it would be an automatic behavior with every store. This means you will automatically do a behavior even if it isn't the proper norm of the store. Which can lead you to the individual acting differently in each store. Therefore schemas are a cognitive concept.
