When I read about Vygotsky’s view of a social interaction it reminded me very much of my own experiences playing music with a group of other musicians.
Playing in a band or with other people is a very collaborative activity that seems very similar to Vygotsky’s concept of social constructive collaboration. It’s a very dynamic process in which energy is being exchanged between the players in a constant flow; eg.) the piano player’s riff emerging from the bass players line a moment ago, which also gave the guitar player a rhythmic arpeggiated idea, which then the piano player picked up on and started following, from which the drummer started a new pattern using the hi hats, which led to a new part in the guitar….and so on, with each new moment emerging from the simultaneous influence of all of the musicians.
