Eugenics is a misleading theory by scientist Francis Galton that states that selective breeding would help maintain and improve the level of intelligence in the human genetic pool. Although human is already in a way practising a form of eugenics by the way we select life partner, or by the way a farmer selects livestock or plants etc. the form of eugenics he proposed is very offensive because:
- It's a theory that is meant to create a very obvious and distinct separation between individuals in the society. Racism, colourism, status etc in society has already created a divide, eugenic would only create more problem and divide than the "solution" proposed.
- It is setting an invalid idea that there is an "ideal/perfect" person based on the level of intelligence.According to the multiple intelligence approach, everyone is different and intelligent in their own ways. The idea of an "ideal intelligent individual" create the notion that people are created unequal.
- It violates the idea of freedom in breeding.
- It will also lead to both the voluntary and coerced sterilization of adults. It will lead to the killing of adults, just because they have a lower intelligence that might be considered not beneficially to the society.

Hello LucyD,
I like your answer. Eugenics defiantly creates and breeds the concept of otherness in the society - in fact, it tries to justify it. However, just be careful when you say "it is meant to" (for reason #1) because the segregation of people is an outcome of practicing eugenics. Also, for reason #4 be careful when you use the word "WILL" instead of it "CAN" or "MAY".
