What Moghaddam refers to "play … allows children to extend themselves developmentally, to act above their age, to do things as part of a collectivity which they are individually too young to do” (page 158). Is allowing children to extend their mental capabilities. For example. we see young children during playing time extending their mental abilities while using their imagination to be doctors, firefighters, or play house where they act out the roles of mom/dad even though they don't know the function and dynamics of a family.
