Unlike traditional psychology's view of the "social", where the focus remained on the individual, or another meaning of social which emphasized on how others may influence a particular individual, the Vygotskian interpretation focuses on collaborative construction, which is when all the individuals of a group collaboratively construct a new behaviour. Vygotsky particularly focused on personal meanings in relation to collaborative criticism because it allowed us to have a more complex understanding of the social and how it may play a part in a person's life based on their meaning systems (especially for sensitive periods) in our development.
