Hello everyone,
I have been reading through all answers and it seems that most of you are doing pretty well. However, there is a misconception regarding eugenics which I have found across several answers. I have opened this forum to correct that mistake.
Many students have described animal breeding to be eugenics; that is wrong. I would like to emphasize that eugenics pertains to humans only. Moghaddam (2005) uses animal breeding as an analogy for mate selection in humans (he is not calling it eugenics!). I have used italics (for the quote below) to explain what I mean;
It is often claimed that eugenics is very old and has been regularly
practiced for the last few thousand years. After all, people have
always carefully selected spouses for themselves and tried to find
the best possible partner with whom to have children.
In selecting mates, people have done what farmers and animal
breeders have done for thousands of years, selectively breeding
in order to pass on particular characteristics, such as size, color,
and so on. (p. 100)
Thus, your answers should be talking about humans, NOT animals. However, if you wish you may use an animal breeding analogy as Moghaddam did.
If you have any questions please feel free to post them at anytime. I will try to get back as soon as I can. If it is not possible, you may ask them in class during the discussion session.
